Mural Project: Jataka Tales of the Buddha
2014
Mural
165*145cm
Ancient architectural wood carving, meticulous heavy-color painting, embossed powder with gold gilding, traditional Chinese painting pigments, gold leaf, silver leaf
This piece originated from a journey to Thailand in 2013. After participating in a Buddhist meditation program during the trip, I returned to Thailand in 2014 to begin preparing my graduation project. During this period, I extensively studied Thai temple murals and art, ultimately completing this work using traditional Chinese mural painting techniques.
Subsequently, I collected a series of wooden carvings salvaged from demolished old buildings in Thailand and assembled them into a frame for display alongside the artwork.
This piece represents both a culmination of my university studies in traditional Chinese mural techniques and an exploration of and homage to Thai religious painting.
